Dragonfly Farms offers all natural, all grass-fed beef. We raise Belted Galloway and Angus cattle on our pastures in western Hanover, practicing rotational grazing and common sense farming to improve our environment, enhance our community, and support our family. We do not use chemical fertilizers or pesticides. We do not use hormones or steroids. We do not feed any grain. Our cattle thrive on natural pasture, consuming what they evolved to eat such as fescue, orchard grass, clovers and rye. For optimum health and quality, they are raised in a low stress environment with every consideration given to their overall well being.
Grass-fed beef is naturally leaner and healthier compared to grain-fed beef in confined feedlots. Meat from grass-fed cattle has less total fat, saturated fat, calories and cholesterol. It has more vitamin E and C, beta carotene and health-producing fats such as Omega 3’s and CLA’s. We believe grass-fed beef is not only delicious and healthy, but farming cattle in this way is beneficial to the animals themselves and the environment.
The Belted Galloway, or Beltie, is a heritage breed developed in Celtic Scotland in the 16th century. The Belted Galloways are known for their ability to produce delicious, tender beef solely from pasture grazing. We raise them for their naturally superior genetics on a grass-fed diet. Belted Galloway beef has 46% fewer calories and 68% lower total fat values than average USDA inspected beef. Visit the Belted Galloway breed association website at beltie.org to learn more about all of the nutritional benefits of Belted Galloway beef. Our herd also has several Angus and Angus/Belted Galloway crosses. We also enjoy working with Angus cattle, particularly Red Angus. The Angus produce well marbled beef on grass and mature a little quicker than the Belties.
